Description
Angel Bake pure vanilla extract is part of the Culinary Aromatics collection, Saena’s line of pure flavor extracts for the widest range of culinary uses, from baking and custards to coffee, ice cream and homemade syrups. It is made the traditional way, from real vanilla beans steeped in alcohol, so it measures like the vanilla your recipes already call for. Use the amount the recipe asks for, one for one.
Pure Vanilla Extract, Planifolia and Tahitian
Most vanilla extracts are built on a single bean. Ours blends two. Planifolia, the bean behind classic Madagascar and Bourbon style vanilla, gives the warm, creamy, rounded backbone most people picture when they think of vanilla. Tahitian vanilla adds a softer, floral, almost fruity top note that opens up in cold desserts and drinks. Together they read fuller and more complete than either bean alone.
Our own vanilla beans are grown in Indonesia and imported directly from a growers’ union, so we know where they come from and who grew them. The beans are cold steeped, which keeps the delicate aromatics that heat can flatten.
Flavor and aroma
Expect a deep, creamy vanilla with a gentle sweetness on the nose, warm woody notes from the Planifolia and a floral lift from the Tahitian. In baked goods the Planifolia backbone carries through the oven. In ice cream, whipped cream, custard and coffee, the Tahitian character comes forward. It supports chocolate, coffee, fruit, nuts, caramel and warm spices without covering them.
Real vanilla, nothing added
Many vanilla products on the shelf stretch real vanilla with added vanillin, the single compound that gives vanilla its most familiar note, or with corn syrup and sugar. Ours is real vanilla only. The Culinary Aromatics line is made without:
- Added vanillin or synthetic flavor
- Artificial flavors or enhancers
- Propylene glycol
- Added sugar, corn syrup or artificial sweeteners
- WONF (with other natural flavors)
- BHT or sodium benzoate
Our extracts are produced in a dedicated Gluten-Free facility, free of the major food allergens, and they are made with organic ingredients.
How much to use
Vanilla is the one flavor in our range made at traditional strength, so it measures the way vanilla always has:
- Your recipe calls for vanilla extract: use the same amount.
- Replacing a whole vanilla bean: 1 tablespoon of extract.
- Swapping vanilla paste for extract, or extract for paste: the same measurement.
- No recipe to follow: start with 1 teaspoon in a sweet batter or custard, then taste and add more.
Our other extracts are concentrated and dosed by the drop. If you use both, our guide to how much extract to use explains the difference.

Vanilla for coffee, without the syrup
Vanilla coffee usually means a sweetened syrup, which decides the sugar for you. A small splash of pure vanilla extract gives you the vanilla on its own, so you can sweeten your cup the way you like it, or not at all. Start small, stir and taste.
A note on chocolate
Like all traditional vanilla extracts, ours contains water as well as alcohol, and water can make melted chocolate seize. For ganache, truffles and chocolate fillings, add the vanilla to the warm cream or the butter rather than straight into melted chocolate.
